Sappy and romantic the metaphorical locks hang on the Brooklyn Bridge. The locks themselves symbolize a eternal bond between people. After the lock is placed on the bridge, the key is flung into the Hudson River so the lock/love will be there forever.
The idea is cute, but I wonder how many locks no longer have a relationship that they represent. I think I am too logical of a thinker to believe this act is meant to keep a relation together. I don’t think a break-up would be ended with someone stating, “Hey wait what about our love lock?”, and the other saying,”Ohhhhh Yeahhhhhh, you’re right. My bad. We can’t break up.”
I think that the love locks are great for making memories with another, but not to tie a relationship together.
